hi Pierre and Mahesh. Very nice to hear from you. Great to hear that Pierre now you are in Kathmandu. We had a wonderful visit to Nepal, the weather was great during the Kali Gandaki trek. We did what wanted to do in Kathmandu and Pokhara and we even managed to do the mountain flight. What more could we ask for. Mahesh and Lhakpa looked after us very well and we came back with wonderful memories of Nepal, with a strong desire to return. Thanks for Frens Himalayan Treks and Expedition. Anu Mitra

Everest region

Khumbu (also known as the Everest Region) is located in northeastern Nepal on the Nepalese side of Mount Everest. It is part of the Solukhumbu District, which in turn is part of the Sagarmatha Zone. Khumbu is one of three subregions of the main Khambu(specially Thulung) and Sherpa settlement of the Himalaya, the other two being Solu and Pharak. It includes the town of Namche Bazaar as well as the villages of Thami, Khumjung, Pangboche, Pheriche and Kunde. The famous Buddhist monastery at Tengboche is also located in the Khumbu.

The Khumbu’s elevation ranges from 3,300 metres (11,000 feet) to the 8,848 m (29,029 ft) summit of Mount Everest, the highest place on Earth. Sagarmatha National Park (above Monju) and the Sagarmatha National Park Buffer Zone (between Lukla and Monju) are enclosed within the Khumbu region.

The recognition of the region as a National Park since 1976 intends to protect its unique cultural, physical and scientific values.
In the same time UNESCO recognised Sagarmatha National Park as a world heritage site in 1976 as the park ‘contains superlative natural beauty and is of great aesthetic importance’.

Highlights : Marvellous mountains, glaciers and deep valleys, dominated by Mount Everest, the highest peak in the world (8,848 m), the presence of the Sherpas, with their unique culture, several rare species, such as the snow leopard and the lesser panda.
